If you’ve already drafted Chris Johnson, it looks like it may be time to seriously consider a handcuff or backup plan based on all reports circulating on the internet. Johnson, perhaps rightfully, is demanding to get paid. As a small RB with a huge workload…. its hard to blame him. Unfortunately, that leaves the fantasy world a bit unsettled.
Handcuffing Javon Ringer, Johnson’s apparent backup, seems to be a logical option. In limited action last year, he averaged a respectable 4.7 yards per carry. Even at MSU, he was never stellar in the passing game, so its difficult to say how he will do in that role. He put together a great Big 10 career and has been learning on the bench for two seasons, so he should be ready to go. He is a smaller back like Johnson and clocked a 4.4 – 40 at the combine while recovering from surgery. With an offense in transition, Ringer looks like a solid fill-in candidate, particularly if you already have drafted Johnson and need insurance for the early part of your season.
