Eric Decker is flying off of the waiver wire at a rapid clip… but I’m not quite certain why. Yes, he had a very good game on Sunday. He pulled in over 100 Yds. and added 2 TD’s. It was a very nice outing for him. However, he was Denver’s ONLY option at WR against the lowly Bengals. He basically had a giant “Orton Pick Me” sign on his back the entire game. Denver was so hard-up for WR help that they lined up Tim Tebow at WR during the game.
I really have trouble seeing Decker maintaining a high level of production when Brandon Lloyd returns (which should be this week) or when Denver plays a solid pass defense (such as Green Bay in two weeks). When Eddie Royal returns at some point, Decker will be back to third on the depth chart of a team coached by John Fox and led by Kyle Orton — certainly not a combination likely to remind anyone of the “Greatest Show on Turf” anytime soon. Given all of this, I’m not certain that Decker is worth a pickup for either the near-term or the long-run. I also think other, more attractive options are available, such as David Nelson or Deion Branch as spot starters or Denarius Moore as a long-term wildcard.

Decker was pretty clearly above Royal in the pecking order in the game against the Raiders. I think he’s Orton’s #2 target behind Lloyd, although if Demaryius Thomas ever comes back he’d get knocked down again.
